Launch on Service for The Lizard RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

Our pagers sounded at 2.10pm following a launch on service request from Falmouth Coastguard.

RNLI/The Lizard RNLI

The relief Tamar class lifeboat currently on station here at The Lizard -‘RNLB Irene Muriel Rees’ launched at 2.24pm under the command of Duty Coxswain Andrew Putt and proceeded to the assistance of a 16’ Plymouth Pilot boat.

With 2 persons on board the vessel had suffered a loss of engine and was drifting prior to anchoring in a position just north of Kynance Cove. Upon arrival on scene a thorough assessment of the stricken vessels plight was carried out and given the lack of engine power, the decision was taken to tow the boat north in to Mullion Harbour. With the harbour in sight the smaller Y Boat was deployed from the lifeboat, and this continued the confined tow straight into the harbour.

Once assured that the vessel had been left in a safe position and it’s occupants were in no need of any further assistance, the Y-boat was recovered back on to the lifeboat and the passage home to Kilcobben Cove commenced. Arriving back on the slipway at 4.17pm, ‘RNLB Irene Muriel Rees’ was rehoused and made ready for service again when required.
