Cromer RNLI lifeboat day set to return this August
Lifeboat day will take place on Sunday 9 August 2026 from 10am.
Volunteers at Cromer are getting preparations under way for this years lifeboat day. This free event focuses on the work of the Cromer RNLI volunteers.
The all-day event involves both lifeboat stations being open for visitors where the charity's D class and Tamar class lifeboats can be viewed. Plus the lifeboats will launch as part of the day’s activities, and will include an exciting demonstration involving the lifeguards.
There will be a range of stalls along the promenade - all from 10am featuring RNLI souvenirs, cakes and more. Plus there will be a commemorative service of thanksgiving at 2pm at the inshore lifeboat (ILB) station at the bottom of the Gangway.
During the day, as well as meeting some of the volunteer crew, it’s an opportunity to meet and find out more about water safety plus what the other rescue services do in Cromer, including RNLI lifeguards, HM Coastguard and Coastwatch.
For children there is an opportunity to meet Stormy Stan, the RNLI's mascot, or dress up in crew outfits, and there are a number of stalls provided by the fundraising guild with treasure hunts, cakes and much more.
Music will be provided by the Sheringham Shantymen, The Walker Brothers, and Brass Band 'I dunno'.
John Redmond, Cromer RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM) said: “Lifeboat Day is one of the highlights of the summer, giving our community visitors a brilliant chance to experience first-hand the life-saving work of our Cromer volunteers. From meeting the crew and exploring the lifeboats to watching exciting demonstrations, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
You’ll also be able to find out more about the vital role played by our lifeguards and emergency services colleagues, who work together to keep our coastline safe. It’s a fun, inspiring day out for all ages—and a wonderful way to celebrate the courage, commitment and teamwork behind every rescue.”

Key facts about Cromer RNLI
The Cromer Lifeboat Station was established in 1804 and was not taken over by the Institution from the Norfolk Shipwreck Association until 1857. Since 1923 there have been two lifeboats at Cromer, and currently there is a D class inshore boat and Tamar all-weather lifeboat. The outstanding figure in the history of Cromer is Henry George Blogg who became a member of the Cromer crew in 1894 at the age of 18. He was coxswain from 1909-1947. During his 53 years as a lifeboat crew member, the Cromer lifeboats had been on service 387 times and rescued 873 lives. His record is without equal in the history of the Institution. No lifeboat crew member has received so many decorations for gallantry.
