Beaumaris RNLI launched to a report of a dinghy adrift in the Menai Strait
At 9.19 pm on Sunday 3 May 2026, the volunteer crew of the Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington, received a request from HM Coastguard to investigate a report of an assumed empty 16 foot. rigid inflatable boat adrift between Caernarfon and Y Felinheli.
Once on scene and the craft located, the lifeboat crew ascertained that the vessel had not been occupied. As the craft constituted a navigation hazard – for safety reasons the boat was taken ashore at the nearest suitable location, this being the slipway at Plas Menai. It was then handed over to the waiting mobile Coastguard Rescue Team from Llandwrog.
Once this had been completed the lifeboat was released by the Coastguard to return to her station at Beaumaris, returning at 10.25 pm to be refuelled and cleaned. Once this had been completed by 10.58 pm the crew left the station.
A RNLI spokesperson said: ‘The informant did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to the vessel. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the vessel quickly, assess the situation and take the best course of action to prevent the situation worsening.’
