RNLI Moelfre tasked to assist skipper who needed urgent medical assistance.

Lifeboats News Release

On Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:24 p.m, Moelfre RNLI volunteers were tasked by H.M. Coastguard to assist a 24-foot yacht carrying two adults and a child that was experiencing mechanical issues and concerns over one passenger’s health.

With winds gusting at 40 knots and seas reaching three meters, the all-weather lifeboat ‘Kiwi’ (ALB) headed to Porth Llechog (Bull Bay), where the yacht had anchored awaiting help.

Once on scene, the lifeboat Coxswain made three successful attempts to bring the ALB alongside, demonstrating the crew's skill and teamwork in tough sea conditions and a tight space filled with pots, buoys, and shallow waters.

The RNLI deck crew did an outstanding job, not only keeping searchlights trained on the yacht but also manually helping all three aboard as both boats pitched in heavy seas.

Once on board, the crew noticed the skipper was nauseous and showing worrying symptoms, which were closely monitored by the lifeboat casualty care-trained members.

When the skipper began drifting in and out of consciousness, they made the call to return to the boathouse at a safe speed, where an ambulance was waiting.

‘Kiwi’ was back on the slip at 1:33 a.m, handing the skipper over to paramedics before being readied for the next call to service.

At 3:30 a.m., relatives picked up the other adult and child from our boathouse, ensuring they received the care and support they needed after the incident, underscoring our dedication to their well-being.

Deputy Coxswain Martin Jones (Bonty) praised the crew’s exceptional efforts under challenging weather and high-pressure conditions, calling it “a very, very good job well done,” which highlights their professionalism and dedication.
