RNLI Tighnabruaich volunteer undertakes chilly ‘sleep out’ to support veterans
On a very cold Friday night (20 March) crew volunteer David Mackail took part in the Great Tommy Sleep Out, a nationwide challenge to raise awareness and funds for homeless ex-servicemen and women, by sleeping outside for the night by Kilbride Bay.
David explained he joined this annual endeavour to support the Royal British Veterans Enterprise “with no tent, just an Arctic sleeping bag and a camper fire. It was a beautiful starry night but freezing! Hardly slept a wink” as the temperature dropped throughout the night. Although accustomed to the cold when on board the inshore lifeboat, at minus one at one in the morning David reported “I just can’t sleep, I don’t know how the homeless do it”, and looked forward to dawn.
While it may have taken a day or two to feel warm again, David’s efforts were rewarded by supporters donating to his JustGiving page. His night of hardship highlighted the plight of veterans and raised vital funds. if you wish to donate you can do so at David MACKAIL is fundraising for Royal British Veterans Enterprise
Well done David, and all who participated.
