Wells RNLI launched to two separate incidents in Spring sunshine
Wells RNLI launched Tuesday 17 March to assist people cut off by the incoming tide, in two separate but nearby incidents
At 2.29pm, HM Coastguard requested the launch of Wells RNLI’s inshore lifeboat to assist a person reported to be cut off by the tide to the north of the boathouse.
Wells RNLI inshore lifeboat Peter Wilcox, with three crew onboard, launched on the first of the incoming tide and made its way to the area. While approaching the crew quickly identified two people and two dogs on the foreshore to the west of the harbour who had been cut off by the incoming tide.
The lifeboat was on scene at 2.38pm and safely transferred the two people and their dogs to the main beach after checking they were safe and required no further medical attention.
Following this Peter Wilcox a headed to the location given from a 999 call related to a separate person cut off by the incoming tide further along the harbour, near the town quay. The lifeboat proceeded to the area and carried out searches in the lower harbour while Coastguard Rescue Officers made further enquiries with the informant.
Nothing untoward was found during the search and no person was located, at 3.38pm it was confirmed via harbour CCTV that the individual had already reached safety of dry land and was safe. After checking all information was correct with the Coastguard and Harbour teams the lifeboat was stood down at by 3.45pm and returned to station, where it was recovered, refuelled and made ready for service.
