Hastings RNLI welcomes generous donations
Volunteers from Hastings RNLI lifeboat station gratefully received two generous cheques from local benefactors last Saturday 14 March.
Barry and Jacqueline Hinves, Lady Margaret Beaden, Molly Dowling and Terry and Diane Wood handed over a cheque for £1275 from a Burns Night event they organised, and Barry Hinves and Terry Wood also presented a cheque for £1160 from the Royal Sovereign Light Lodge, based in Bexhill.
Barry said : 'We are delighted to support Hastings RNLI, and the tremendous work they do, and look forward to continuing to support them into the future.'
Paul Freathy, the Hastings RNLI Lifeboat Management Group chair, who accepted the cheques on behalf of Hastings RNLI Lifeboat Station, added : The RNLI is wholly dependent on public donations such as this to help us save lives at sea. We are extremely grateful to the Burns Night event organisers and supporters, and the Royal Sovereign Light Lodge in Bexhill, for their generosity. We will make sure this money is put to very good use!'
Key facts about the RNLI
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,700 lives.
