The pair trained and launched alongside their fellow volunteers earlier this week, highlighting how the RNLI brings families and generations together in a shared commitment to saving lives at sea.

Jane has been a volunteer crew member at Portsmouth RNLI for eight years and is part of a diverse team of men and women who give their time to help save lives at sea. The crew train regularly to ensure they are ready to respond to emergencies along the busy Solent, working together in challenging and often unpredictable conditions.

Eighteen months ago, Molly joined the lifeboat crew becoming one of the newest volunteers at the station. Supported by experienced crew members, including her mother, she has developed vital lifesaving skills and confidence on the lifeboat. Training sessions and call-outs see the whole crew working as one unit, where trust, communication and teamwork are essential.

Jane said: ‘Volunteering with the RNLI has been incredibly rewarding, and having Molly join the crew has made it even more special. It’s not always easy, but knowing we’re helping to save lives together is something I’m very proud of, especially on Mother’s Day.’

Molly added that volunteering alongside her mum has helped build her confidence and skills, while strengthening their relationship both on and off the lifeboat.
