Run club runners keep on running

Lifeboats News Release

Six months on from its launch, Oban Lifeboat’s run club is still going strong as runners of all ages and abilities take to the streets around Oban every Wednesday evening.

A group huddled in the lee of the lifeboat station in their running gear about to head off into the rain and wind.

Jasmin is second left in the photo taken at this week’s run club.

The club is organised by deputy mechanic Jasmin Manning as she continues her preparations to run as the only Scottish lifeboat crew member in the RNLI’s team for the 2026 London Marathon at the end of next month.

“The run club is a fun way of bringing people together to have a run on a Wednesday evening,” says Jasmin. We meet at the lifeboat station on the South Pier at 7pm and try to do something different every week.”

Jasmin’s fundraising has been going well, thanks to the generosity of people and businesses across Oban and far beyond.

A second pub quiz is planned for Sunday 12 April at the View in Oban, following the huge success of the first fundraiser quiz in December.

And Jasmin says the run club will continue on after the London Marathon:

“We’re absolutely going to keep the club going.

“I think we’ve filled a bit of a gap and we’d really miss our Wednesday nights together if they weren’t there. Besides, we’ve managed to make it through the worst of the dark winter so why would we stop just as the evenings get lighter and the weather gets brighter!”
