HRH The Duke of Gloucester visits Buckie RNLI
Volunteers at Buckie RNLI welcomed HRH The Duke of Gloucester to the lifeboat station on Thursday 5 March where The Duke was given a tour of the station and lifeboat.
His Royal Highness’s visit to Buckie RNLI formed part of a wider tour of Buckie Harbour, where The Duke also visited Ocean Winds and Buckie Shipyard to learn more about local maritime activity and industry in the area.
During the visit to the lifeboat station, The Duke was welcomed by a range of volunteers representing different roles at the station. Volunteer crew members, fundraisers, visits team and water safety personnel were all present to share their experiences of supporting the RNLI’s lifesaving work.
The Duke was then shown around the lifeboat station and given a tour of Buckie RNLI’s all-weather Severn class lifeboat, RNLB William Blannin, learning about the vessel’s capabilities and equipment.
Buckie RNLI has been serving the local community since 1860, with volunteers on call 24 hours a day ready to respond to emergencies at sea. The Duke heard how the RNLI’s first class-training helps ensure the volunteer crew are prepared to launch whenever they are needed.
Bruce Scott, Senior Station Technician at Buckie RNLI said of the visit: ‘It was a great honour to welcome His Royal Highness to our station today. A royal visit is a special moment for everyone involved with Buckie RNLI, and it means a great deal to our volunteers who give their time willingly to help save lives at sea.’
