Southend RNLI volunteers successfully complete Casualty Care course
Two Casualty Care courses held at Southend RNLI lifeboat station saw several volunteers successfully pass the RNLI’s intensive three-day course. The crucial training provides our volunteer crew with vital skills in trauma management, CPR, medical emergencies, and casualty assessment.
Huge congratulations to all Southend-on-Sea RNLI volunteers who passed the rigorous course over the past two weeks. The high-class training ensures our volunteers are ready to provide life saving care in often very challenging conditions.
The Casualty Care course covers a wide range of emergency care techniques including CPR, defibrillator use and the management of bleeds, fractures, burns and head injuries. Volunteers also learn to identify and respond to cardiac chest pain, systemic allergic reactions, immersion‑related injuries and other life‑threatening conditions. The training features practical simulations using RNLI check cards (step‑by‑step guides that help crew members assess and treat casualties during real rescues).
A special thanks to Casualty Care Trainer Rosie for her first-class tuition, guidance, and encouragement with the volunteers, and to Freddie the Spaniel present as always keeping the crew smiling throughout the tough training.
Casualty Care is just one of the many skills in which RNLI volunteers are trained to carryout search and rescue operations in all conditions. Professional RNLI trainers ensure the volunteers receive the very best training.
