After the great success in 2024 of phase 1 as part of the RNLI’s 200th birthday celebrations, phase 2 of the Paver Project is now open to mark 175 years of saving lives at sea by the local lifeboats.

In phase 1, a line of pavers outside the Lytham St Annes All-weather (ALB) Lifeboat House on South Promenade (FY8 1SJ), were replaced with pavers engraved with the names of loved ones and supporters of the local lifeboat station as long lasting memorials.

Every time the lifeboat launches, she follows this path of pavers to the head of the slipway taking her down to the beach. Their location makes them available at all times to be viewed by the public as they walk past. Each paver was sponsored by a donation to the RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea, and therefore each sponsor is helping to save lives by funding a paver - as well as leaving a long lasting show of their support for the volunteer lifeboat service.

Such was the demand for pavers that as soon as phase 1 was completed, a list of people wishing to obtain one was soon being made. The phase 2 pavers will be placed in two rows, one either side of the apron in front of the boathouse, marking the pathway to the slipway.

The new pavers are larger than the phase 1 versions and therefore can take an increased number of letters, a maximum of three lines with 20 characters per line.

There is limited availability and time to obtain a paver, so for more details please collect a leaflet from either of our two souvenir shops, or please go online at:

Chris Wrigley, Head of Fundraising at Lytham St Annes RNLI, said:

'This is a great opportunity to show your support for the local lifeboat station with a paver etched with your name, family members, loved ones or a local business, as a long lasting reminder of your support for the highly trained volunteers who man the lifeboats and the shore crew who enable the boats to get to sea.

'They are tirelessly backed by the dedicated shop staff, water safety education, visits team, fundraisers and station management.

'Thank you to all our generous supporters as our lifeboat station celebrates 175 years of saving lives at sea.'
