Oban lifeboat says thank you to retiring colleagues
Oban Lifeboat has held an event to recognise four people who are stepping down from the seagoing crew.
Ian Henry took part in his first callout in 1990 and went on to be part of the crew on 475 shouts during which he spent 850 hours at sea and travelled 8,500 miles. Having retired from the seagoing crew, Ian is now Chairman of Oban Lifeboat.
James Hardie is retiring from the service 14 years after his first shout as a qualified member of the crew. He went on to complete his training to become a coxswain on the lifeboat. James was part of the crew on 355 callouts spending over 700 hours at sea and covering nearly 6,800 miles.
Kevin Lockhart has retired having been part of the crew on 79 callouts since qualifying to carry his pager in 2017.
Cameron Scott, who has had to hand back his pager having moved to a new home further from the lifeboat station, responded to his first call in 2023 and was part of 39 shouts. He remains a member of the Oban RNLI Water Safety Team.
The time on service does not include the many hours each spent in training or the occasions when a member of the crew turned out but was not selected to go to sea on that particular shout.
