The Mumbles RNLI volunteers launch three times over busy weekend

Lifeboats News Release

Volunteer crews from The Mumbles RNLI launched their inshore lifeboat (ILB) three times over the weekend as warm weather brought more people to the coast.

The first launch came for the Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) on Saturday, June 27th, after reports of a person cut off by the tide on Middle Island. The tide rises quickly around the island, cutting it off from the mainland in a short space of time. Thankfully, the person was brought safely back ashore.

Later that day, the ILB launched at the request of South Wales Police following reports of a person entering the water near Snaple Point, Langland. Fortunately, the person made it safely ashore, allowing the lifeboat to return to station.

The third and final launch came on Sunday afternoon (28th) after concerns were raised for a person near the observatory at Swansea Marina. Following a search of the area, there was a positive outcome and the lifeboat was stood down.

Deputy Launch Authority Mark James said: "The recent warm weather has brought more people to the coast, and while we want everyone to enjoy the sea safely, things can change very quickly. If you see someone in difficulty in or near the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately. Don't enter the water yourself, as you could become another casualty. If you can, throw them something that floats and keep them in sight until help arrives."

The Mumbles RNLI is reminding anyone heading to the coast to check the weather and tide times before setting out and, where possible, choose a lifeguarded beach.

You can also support The Mumbles RNLI by taking part in the Mumbles RNLI Raft Race on Saturday 19 July at Knab Rock. Whether you're entering a raft or cheering from the shore, it's a fantastic day out that helps raise vital funds to keep the station saving lives at sea.
