Porthdinllaen RNLI tasked to assist yacht with fouled propellor
Porthdinllaen RNLI volunteer crew were requested to launch at 6:30 pm to assist a 32-foot yacht with a fouled propeller in Porthdinllaen Harbour.
Launching with a compliment of volunteer crew, the lifeboat was on scene within minutes and found that the yacht had fouled its propeller on one of the moorings within the harbour. With lifeboat unable to get close to the yacht due to the shallow water, the on board rescue with two crew members were deployed. On scene they assessed the situation, and managed to cut the mooring line free, but with the yacht unable to retrieve its anchor, which had been deployed after the entanglement, this was also cut free by the yacht`s crew, to be retrieved later. With the tide falling fast, the yacht was securely moored to a nearby mooring where repairs could be carried out later.
Robert Jones, duty Coxswain at Porthdinllaen added “ we were glad to be of assistance tonight, we always advise when any craft is venturing into a harbour or mooring area, to be aware of marker buoys and lines in the area”.
