Two casualties and a dog rescued from incoming tide by Redcar RNLI
Redcar RNLI volunteer crew rescued two people and their dog who had been cut off by the tide under Huntcliff at Saltburn.
Both the Redcar station's lifeboats, the Leicester Challenge III and the Eileen May Loach-Thomas, were launched at 1:03pm Sunday 28 June and headed to the scene to rescue the casualties and their dog from the incoming tide. One of the casualties had an ankle injury which was assessed and treated at the scene by a casualty care trained crew member. The dog was fine.
Tony Wild, Launch Authority at Redcar RNLI said: ‘Our volunteer crew once again showed how training for such rescue situations can result in a positive outcome. This rescue also highlights the dangers of walking along our coast. People are not aware that you can be cut off at Huntcliff three hours before high tide. Always check the weather conditions and tide times before you set out and carry a phone in case of an emergency’.
The casualties were transported safely back to the shore at Saltburn where they were passed over to the waiting Coastguard team. Both lifeboats returned to Redcar where they were fuelled and prepared for their next launch.
