School is out for summer at Largs RNLI
Over the last few weeks two volunteers from Largs RNLI went back to school visiting six local primary school to deliver important water safety lessons.
Ailsa Wardrop and Ronnie Copeland, volunteer Water Safety Educators from Largs RNLI, visited Largs Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School, Fairlie Primary School, West Kilbride Primary School, Skelmorlie Primary School and Dykesmains Primary School.
The summer term was the perfect opportunity to visit the schools, with pupils and teachers enjoying the fun and informative activities.
The dynamic duo were able to speak to over 1000 pupils during these visits, working with them to identify dangers around the coast, explaining how they can stay safe around water and how to float to live if they end up in the water. The pair also shared information about the role of the RNLI and the inshore lifeboat based at the lifeboat station in Largs.
Ronnie Copeland, Water Safety Educator at Largs RNLI, said: ‘It was brilliant to be able to visit these schools and share water safety information with both the pupils and their teachers.
‘As we approach the summer holidays, and with this recent period of good weather, it is very important to remind people about staying safe around the water.
‘We also wanted to make sure the pupils knew that in a coastal emergency they should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
