The volunteers in Skerries, launched their Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat “Louis Simson”, and proceeded immediately towards the location provided by the casualty vessel. With good visibility and very favourable conditions, the boat was quickly located.

Once alongside, it was confirmed that the boat, with two men on board, had suffered an engine failure and were unable to make their way ashore under their own power. Having assessed the situation, the Helm decided that the boat would pose a danger to other sea goers due to the high level of recreation activity in the area. With no other suitable towing vessel nearby, the lifeboat established a tow and brought the boat and its occupants safely back to Skerries.

The lifeboat then returned to the station in Skerries where it was recovered to the boathouse and made ready for the next service.

Conditions at the time were force one to two southerly winds with calm seas and good visibility.

Speaking about the call outs, volunteer lifeboat press officer for Skerries RNLI, Gerry Canning said “Thankfully everyone on board was returned safe and well shore. The men were able to raise the alarm themselves as they had a means of contacting the contacting the shore. Remember if you think someone is in trouble on or near the water, dial 999 and ask for the Coast Guard”
