Lizard RNLI Launch to Assist Casualty Suffering from Heat Exhaustion

RNLB Rose launched on service shortly before 5.30pm following a launch request received by our duty Launch Authority from Falmouth Coastguard.

Under the command of Coxswain Afloat Mechanic, Amy Smith and 6 crew, the lifeboat proceeded to ‘Downas Cove’ to a position of 3 nautical miles northeast of the lifeboat station. Our tasking was to go to the assistance of an unwell female casualty suffering from heat exhaustion on the lower coast path. Coastguard Rescue Teams from Mullion and Porthoustock were already on scene.

Where the casualty was positioned the safest and quickest way of seeking further medical attention was transfer by sea. Upon arrival on scene the smaller Y-boat was launched and with 2 lifeboat crew members on board the casualty was transferred from the shore to the lifeboat which then made it’s way back to the station. There RNLB Rose rehoused and the lady was handed over into the care of SW Ambulance service.

The lifeboat was made ready for service again when required by 7pm. On one of the hottest days ever recorded an excellent response to their pagers by all involved in this service.
