The boat, which had suffered engine failure with four people onboard, had anchored safely and the those onboard were in no immediate danger. On arrival at the scene, the lifeboat crew assessed the situation and stood by while the Coast Guard Delta boat from Bunbeg established a tow rope and towed the boat to the safety of Bunbeg harbour.

Speaking following the launch, Arranmore RNLI Coxswain Tom Davis, Regional Resilience Mechanic, said: ‘Sea conditions at the time were calm and the crew of the boat did the right thing calling for assistance. As a 24/7 emergency service we are always ready to answer the call for assistance. With the good weather and more people visiting the coast we ask people to heed the RNLI's safety messages. If you get into difficulty or see someone in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

'We also urge the public to be know how to float to live if they end up in the water unexpectedly:

· Tilt your head back, submerging your ears.

· Relax and control your breathing.

· Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.

· Your legs may sink – that’s OK. Everyone floats differently.

· Practise floating at a supervised location like a swimming pool.'

Crew onboard the lifeboat were, Coxswain Tom Davis. Senior Station Technician Philip McCauley and crew members Sharon O’Donnell. Seán Gallagher. Bernard John O’Donnell and Joe Doherty.
