Roy told us: “The money has been collected across various events run by the Club over the last 12 months. I think it’s fair to say that people reach a little further into their pockets when they know their donations are specifically for the RNLI station, although I believe this is the first time that Torbay Rotary Club has achieved a four-figure sum across the year for the RNLI.”

Richard responded: “Well we are extremely grateful for the Club’s generous gift and of course we’re always happy when records are broken in this capacity! We already have some ideas for how to most effectively use the money - possibly to upgrade the lifeboat station’s chalkboard with an all-weather digital screen that can better keep passers-by and visitors informed about the latest shouts, show off video footage from recent exercises as well as promote forthcoming local events.”

Amongst attendees from the Rotary Club today, there was Daniel Boatwright, who already volunteers as a RNLI Water Safety Officer for Torbay and has enlisted his dog Spot’s help to promote the RNLI locally and to get the ‘Float to Live’ message out to our coastal visitors this summer!

Daniel is due to take over as the Rotary Club President later this year when Roy steps down. On behalf of RNLI Torbay, we wish him well and of course, the best of luck breaking this year’s record donation!
