The Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat based at Largs launched on service three times during the first week of June, responding to a variety of taskings from HM Coastguard. The inshore lifeboat launched to a Pan-Pan call, a yacht aground and a yacht with a loss of power and steering issues.

Meanwhile, our fantastic Water Safety Team welcomed two groups to the lifeboat station for tours and information sessions. We were delighted to welcome the Largs Free United Church and the Largs Combined Church Group on Thursday June 4. All of the crew hope the visits were enjoyable and worthwhile. Education in water safety really can help to save lives at sea and keep people safe when visiting the coast.

Over the weekend our fabulous fundraisers were welcoming visitors and customers to our lifeboat shop. Currently, the lifeboat shop is open every weekend stocking a variety of gifts and souvenirs, and with something for everyone, it is well worth a visit.

Training this week also took place on both Wednesday evening and Sunday morning, with volunteers completing training activities both onshore at the station and afloat on the lifeboat.

Several of the crew also assisted with a casualty care incident in the town centre while off duty. The crew would like to send best wishes for a speedy recovery to the person involved.

John Griffiths, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Largs RNLI, said; ‘It has been a busy start to the month here at the station. As always, I am very proud of the whole crew. We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated team of volunteers here at Largs.

‘In a coastal, beach or cliff emergency you should always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
