Happisburgh volunteers take big step forward in their training

On the 2 June two volunteers at Happisburgh went through their Navigation Pass Out with the RNLI assessor.

Crew, Ellis Speirs and Tom Hunn, arrived at station midafternoon to start their pass out with a theory test in which they both passed with high pass marks; the practical then followed with the help of the rest of the station crew.

They went afloat and carried out a number of navigation tests and search patterns, each being tested separately, they both passed with flying colours.

Ellis said: ‘I’m so pleased to have passed, we are trained at station to exceptional standards. I must thank my family for giving me the time and space to complete this training.'

Tom said: 'Hard work and persistence paid off. Couldn’t have done it without the amazing team and family support.'

Rachael Kirkham the station’s Lifeboat Operations Manager said: ‘It gives me great delight to say Ellis and Tom have passed out as navigators. The dedication and hard work certainly paid off. Thank you to the whole team for your assistance. We may be small but we are mighty.

'Training is ongoing, we have two crew working through their Navigation training, and new crew who are starting their crew plan training to help the station go from strength to strength. We are always looking for new crew, shore crew, water safety, shop, Visitor Centre and fundraising volunteers to join our team at Happisburgh.

'If interested please visit the station at Cart Gap, Happisburgh or call 01692 583269 and leave your name and number and we will get back to you. Please note the station is not manned all the time. Training takes place Tuesday evening and Sunday morning and the shop is open daily. The Visits Centre is open Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, see our website for times.'
