The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew launched and proceeded to undertake a search between Y Felinheli and Caernarfon Bar on the Menai Strait.

In addition to the Beaumaris Lifeboat volunteers Mobile Coastguard Rescue teams from, Bangor and Llandwrog together with the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter also commenced to search the area.

When the searches failed to locate any sign of a vessel in difficulties, the coastguard instructed the search units to stand down.

The lifeboat returned to her station at Beaumaris at 11.05 am to be refuelled and cleaned. and made ready for her next service call.

Once this had been completed by the crew left the station.

A RNLI spokesperson said: ‘Fortunately in this instance the beacon had been activated manually in error. The EPIRB (emergency position-indicating radio beacons) are carried on many ships and boats, and signal maritime distress it .is activated by water when the beacon is out of the bracket or manually by the ON switch on the EPIRB.’.
