Whitby RNLI recover casualty with broken leg from harbour.

The inshore lifeboat was launched at 11.37am and quickly located the casualty near a pontoon.

Paramedics were already on the scene and had established that the casualty had a broken leg but were unable to safely recover the casualty from the water.

The casualty was transferred to the inshore lifeboat and taken to Whitby Lifeboat Station.

They were then transported via a stretcher to waiting paramedics who were able to continue providing medical care.

Helm on the inshore lifeboat Adam Wright said: 'we would urge people to take extra care entering the water within harbours. There are many hidden dangers that can cause injury.

There is also a risk of cold water shock, which can cause a person to panic and lead to drowning.

Our advice would be to enter the water slowly, in a safe area such as from a beach or slipway.'
