Second Service Launch for RNLB Mollie Hunt

A launch on service request was received by our duty Launch Authority at 12.28pm.

The launch was authorised and the relief Tamar class lifeboat RNLB Mollie Hunt launched on service at 12.43pm under the command of duty Coxswain Andrew Putt and 5 crew. The tasking was to proceed to Pentreath beach, just east of the lifeboat station to reports of a female walker having fallen from the cliff. At this time it was unclear as to whether the casualty had fallen on to rocks or into the water.

The lifeboat arrived on scene at 12.53pm and the smaller Y-boat was deployed with two crew members on board who quickly located the casualty on rocks with what appeared to be serious injuries. Coastguard rescue teams from Mullion and Porthoustock were also in attendance and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 924 had also been tasked and arrived on scene at the same time as the lifeboat. The Y-Boat crew immediately began administering casualty care to the injured female whilst Rescue 924 remained overhead.

At 12.55pm the Cornwall Air Ambulance arrived on scene and was able to safely land on the beach a short time later for their crew to begin their medical care. Rescue 924 was stood down at this point to return to base. Once the casualty had been stabilised and made secure the medical team from Heli-Med 99 (Air Ambulance) transferred the patient to the helicopter for immediate travel to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The Y-boat was recovered on to the lifeboat which had been waiting just offshore. All emergency crews were then stood down and the lifeboat returned to Kilcobben Cove at 2.20pm where she was rehoused and made ready for service again when required by 2.45pm.
