Hastings RNLI Lifeboat Station joins in town’s Pirate Day

Lifeboats News Release

Volunteers from all areas of Hastings RNLI lifeboat station joined in the town’s Pirate Day on Sunday (19th July). Refreshments were served from the lifeboat house, with the impressive Shannon all weather lifeboat’s tractor unit Richard and Mark Colton as a backdrop.

The station’s D-Class inshore lifeboat Richard Francis was on display in front of the station, with crew on hand to explain its workings. And visitors were treated to shanty singing by ‘The Wreckers’ from Newhaven.

Hastings lifeboat management group chair Paul Freathy said :- “Our crew is of course part of Hastings community, and love supporting events such as Pirate Day, which is enjoyed by so many local people and visitors. Drinks were served along with cakes made and donated by crew, family and friends, and there was a tremendous atmosphere at the station. It was great to be joined by ‘The Wreckers’ from Newhaven, they were really popular.

“It was brilliant to be able to join in Pirate Day, show off our station, and raise funds for the RNLI too :- we made over £810 in donations for our drink and cakes!

“I’m really grateful for all the volunteers who helped, and visitors who supported us.”
