Falmouth Coastguard first tasked Penlee RNLI just before 2pm on 12 July 2026 to assist 9 people cut off by the tide at Chapel Rock on Marazion beach. Penlee’s inshore lifeboat Mollie and Ivor Dent launched immediately with Helm Will Treneer in command with a crew of 3 RNLI volunteers.

As the lifeboat arrived at the incident they witnessed one of the St Michael’s Mount ferry boats had recovered the casualties and was returning them ashore. The lifeboat stood down and headed for Newlyn but as they were arriving at the pontoons the pagers went off again.

It was 2:15pm when Falmouth Coastguard tasked Penlee to a paddle boarder being blown offshore at Church Cove near Mullion (the same venue as the previous day’s incident). The inshore lifeboat relaunched and during the passage to the casualty they requested the All-Weather Lifeboat Ivan Ellen to attend as well, but as they did so Falmouth Coastguard updated to say the paddle boarder had made it ashore. The Inshore Lifeboat turned back at the halfway point and returned to station after being stood down.

Weather was clear sky, good visibility, Easterly wind force 5 with the same conditions for both shouts.

Penlee RNLI is based in Newlyn, Penzance, Cornwall TR18 5HW. The volunteers crew an all-weather Severn Class Lifeboat the Ivan Ellen and a B class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat the Mollie and Ivor Dent. The Penlee Lifeboat has a rich 200 years history of saving lives at sea.
