North Berwick RNLI to hold fundraising Open Day on Saturday

The annual Open Day event held by the RNLI’s volunteers raises vital funds for the charity, as well as giving the public a chance to meet the local crew members or get inside the lifeboat station to find our about the RNLI’s lifesaving work in North Berwick.

Being held at Anchor Green, North Berwick Harbour on Saturday (11 July, 11am-4pm) it coincides with the monthly Harbour Market organised by East Lothian Food and Drink, making it a busy day down the harbour, well worth the visit.

The Boathouse will be open to visitors throughout the day, with exciting stalls held in a marquee on Anchor Green including a new interactive crew member challenge where visitors will learn some of the skills it takes to become a crew member.

The ever popular raffle will be drawn at 3pm offering the chance to win:

  • family trip with Sula Boat Trips,
  • family adventure on Foxfall rope course at Foxlake Adventures, Dunbar,
  • two tickets so see Russell Howard at Fringe By the Sea
  • many other prizes donated by local shops and businesses.

Tickets are available from crew members, the RNLI shop in North Berwick or in the marquee on the day.

Other popular activities including the soak a crew member (or parent!) in the stocks at the kids zone and a throw line challenge with members of North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team.

The second hand book stall will also return alongside the tombola and live music including sea shanties, traditional Scottish music and North Berwick Pipe Band.

A Lifejacket Clinic will be held throughout the day where you can get safety advice on the correct fitting and maintenance of your lifejacket as well as learning about devices for calling for help for a range of different activities.

Water safety messaging will also be delivered by RNLI Lifeguards Scotland who will be attending the event as part of the 25 year celebration of RNLI Lifeguards.
