The Steepholmers shanty band entertains at Brent Knoll.
Burnham-onSea RNLI volunteer shore crew member Adrian Povey decided to fundraise by organising a shanty evening at Brent Knoll Village Hall.
Weston-super mare based Shanty group ‘The Steepholmers’ proved to be the ideal choice for the event, as they performed two 45 minute sets, of both traditional and modern songs of the sea.
Saturday evening’s event, 4th July, was carried through with humour, and some participation from the enthusiastic audience. Included was the Steepholmers first rendition of ‘Home from the Sea’, plus a self-composed shanty about Steepholme Island and it’s history of defence of the Bristol channel.
To make the evening go with a zing, there was the Village Hall licensed bar supplying refreshments and the end result was an overall profit of £380 after a donation of £20
Adrian (Ade) was very pleased with the result saying; ‘ I would like to thank the Steepholmers for their terrific entertainment, and the money raised will go towards helping our Burnham-on-Sea lifeboat station save lives at sea.’ He also thanked the Brent Knoll community shop volunteers for running the bar.
