Sunderland RNLI Harbour Day promises a fun-filled family day out

Sunderland Lifeboat Station will welcome the public to its annual Harbour Day on Sunday 9 August from 10am to 3pm. The free event offers families and visitors the chance to meet RNLI volunteers, explore the lifeboats, learn about water safety and enjoy a wide range of activities.

Sunderland RNLI Atlantic 85 and D Class Lifeboats

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew members and the RNLI Water Safety Team, discover more about the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's lifesaving service and speak with representatives from other emergency services attending throughout the day.

There will be plenty of entertainment for all the family, including:

  • Tours of the lifeboats
  • Meet the RNLI Volunteer Crew
  • Meet the RNLI Water Safety Team
  • Meet other Emergency Services
  • RNLI pop-up shop
  • Craft stalls
  • Games and a tombola
  • A photography exhibition featuring historical archive images alongside recent work by Claire Louise Photography
  • And much more throughout the day

The event provides an opportunity for the local community to see behind the scenes of Sunderland Lifeboat Station and learn more about the work carried out by RNLI volunteers, who are available to respond to emergencies at sea 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

'Harbour Day is always one of the highlights of our year. It gives us the chance to welcome the community into the station, show people how the RNLI operates and share important water safety advice. We hope families will come along, enjoy the activities and learn more about the volunteers who help save lives at sea. Every visit and every donation helps support the RNLI's lifesaving work.'

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, whether they are regular supporters of the RNLI or visiting the station for the first time. Donations received during the day will help support the RNLI's volunteer search and rescue service.

Sunderland RNLI Harbour Day will take place at: Sunderland RNLI Lifeboat Station, Marine Activity Centre, North Dock, Roker, Sunderland SR6 0PW, on Sunday 9 August, from 10am to 3pm.
