Troon RNLI lifeboat called out to vessel without power near Ardrossan
About 9pm on Tuesday 30 June 2026, Belfast Coastguard paged Troon RNLI lifeboat crew to launch after reports of a 7.5m vessel with two persons on board that had lost power off Ardrossan.
As the volunteer lifeboat crew began to assemble at the station, the lifeboat was soon launched and making its way to the scene. A short time later, the casualty vessel was sighted and the lifeboat was able to approach. After discussion with those on board, and due to the location of the vessel, a lifeboat crew member was transferred aboard and a tow was established towards Ardrossan.
On arrival within Clyde Marina Ardrossan, the tow was successfully transferred to marina staff and the vessel was safely berthed alongside where it was met by the volunteers from the coastguard team.
The all-weather lifeboat was then able to return to Troon where it was made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.
Speaking following the callout, Troon RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Jim Redmond said, ‘At this time of year, people are getting their boats back in the water and its always good to prepare and plan ahead. We would encourage everyone to check their vessels and ensure engines are well maintained. When going out, always carry adequate tools and spares and ensure you have enough fuel for your journey. If you do get into difficulty or see someone else in trouble, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
