Ethan arrives smiling into the world!

Ethan McGinn was born at 18:01 on Friday 15 May and weighed 5lbs 2oz. Ethan is Tom and Emily’s second little boy, after the birth of Harry in 2024. Harry was very excited to meet his baby brother!

Enquiries have already been made with RNLI stores as to whether Ethan can be sized up for a drysuit, but we suspect he may have to wait a little while.

Happy, healthy and thriving at home, the family are overjoyed and know that the best wishes and love of their fellow volunteers at New Brighton RNLI are with them all.

The RNLI is a family affair for the McGinn family. Tom and Ben are both active crew on New Brighton’s B-class, Atlantic 85 lifeboat. Indeed, Ben and partner Alice also recently welcomed their first child, Rosie, into the world. Tom is a Helm and Lifeboat Trainer Assessor for New Brighton, and Ben an ILB Crew member and Trainee Navigator. Emily is ILB Crew and Lifeboat Press Officer. Mark McGinn, now grandfather for the third time, only recently stepped away from the RNLI, having served as ILB Crew, Tractor Driver and Launch Authority across many years’ service. Grandmother Sharon volunteered in New Brighton’s shop and was fundamental to fundraising efforts. Tom and Emily themselves got engaged on the lifeboat whilst out on exercise a few years ago!

Emily and Tom said:

‘Our family feel complete and we could not be happier. Ethan is already such a wonderful little guy, with bags of personality, and Harry is just the best big brother in the world. We are so proud of them both and are looking forward to a lifetime of memories ahead. The crew have loved meeting Ethan, but we think the drysuit can be put on hold – he wants to drive the tractor!’

Everyone at New Brighton RNLI wish Tom, Emily, Harry and Ethan all the love in the world for this exciting new chapter as a family.

Notes to Editors:

New Brighton RNLI was established in 1863 in the bustling seaside resort of New Brighton, on the northeast corner of the Wirral peninsula. They cover the River Mersey and out into the Irish Sea.

The station is home to a B-class Atlantic 85 lifeboat, one of the fastest in the RNLI fleet. The crews at New Brighton have been presented with a remarkable 48 awards for gallantry to date.
