The lifeboat was requested to launch at 1.55am following reports of a 50-foot yacht that had parted its moorings and was resting against Cromarty Bridge in challenging conditions.

With six volunteer crew on board, the lifeboat made its way to the scene, where the crew assessed the situation and the condition of the vessel. The yacht was found to be unmanned and secured itself against the bridge structure, with no immediate danger to life.

After establishing that there was no risk of pollution and no persons requiring assistance, with local Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRT) and Police Scotland on scene, the crew provided a report to the UK Coastguard Operations Room and monitored the situation before being asked to stand. down. The lifeboat later returned safely to the station where it was made ready for service by 4:30am.

Invergordon RNLI spokesperson Michael MacDonald said:
‘This was a good example of a precautionary launch in challenging night-time conditions. While there was no immediate danger to life, it was important to assess the situation quickly and ensure the safety of the vessel and surrounding area.’
