The Shannon class all-weather lifeboat ‘Agnes AP Barr’ launched with six volunteer crew members on board following a request to assist with the search. The lifeboat worked alongside HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 851 and shore-based Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRT), who carried out coordinated searches along the coastline.
Sea and weather conditions at the time were clear, allowing good visibility for both shoreline and offshore searching.
After an extensive and coordinated multi-agency search, nothing of concern was found, and the operation was stood down. The Lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 11:45pm.
While the call-out was conducted with the usual professionalism and focus, crews were treated to a spectacular display of the Northern Lights, visible across the Moray Firth during the operation.
Invergordon RNLI spokesperson Michael MacDonald said: ‘This was our first launch of the year and demonstrated the importance of effective multi-agency working. Although nothing was found, it was reassuring to see all agencies working closely together. The Northern Lights were an unexpected but memorable sight for our volunteer crew.’
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts.
