Brave Dippers Raise Funds for Rhyl RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

The brave souls who took a dip in the chilly Irish Sea on Boxing have helped raise over £3000 for Rhyl RNLI.

The annual Rhyl RNLI Festive Dip took place on Boxing Day this year due to the tides, saw over 230 ‘Dippers’ taking part and hundreds more spectators cheering them on from the shoreline. The clear skies on the day and Easterly winds meant the dippers were met by some colder that usual conditions, with a sea temperature of just 9 degrees Celsius also. The day also saw a fancy dress competition, judged by the Rhyl Town Mayor, Cllr Alexander Walker.

Sandra Hughes, Rhyl RNLI Fundraising Chair said “This years Festive Dip was a great success, we would like to thank all those turned up to take the plunge. With some money still left to come in we have raised a fantastic amount for the RNLI, which will help the Rhyl station continue its lifesaving work along the North Wales coast. I’d also like to thank all our amazing volunteers who helped organise the event, and also kept everyone safe during the dip. RNLI Rhyl would also like to extend a special thanks to Waterloo Toilet Hire, who provided the events portable toilets, and Denbighshire Leisure who lent safety barriers”.
