Dunbar RNLI lifeboats in late night search operation

Following a road traffic accident on the A1 near Thorntonloch, HM Coastguard paged for Dunbar’s all-weather and inshore lifeboats at 9.50pm to conduct a search of the nearby coastline. Both the D class inshore lifeboat David Lauderand all-weather Trent class John Neville Taylor launched from Dunbar Harbour and were on scene near Torness Power Station by 10.20pm. Several local coastguard teams and a Police Scotland helicopter were also in attendance.

After conducting an extensive search of the shoreline, both boats were stood down at 12.10am and returned to the harbour where they were refuelled and readied for their next service.

· · Established in 1808, 16 years before the formation of the RNLI, Dunbar Lifeboat Station is one of the oldest in Scotland and is located on the south side of the mouth of the Firth of Forth.

· Since its formation, its volunteer crews have been honoured with 12 awards for gallantry.

· It operates two lifeboats – the Trent class all-weather lifeboat (ALB) John Neville Taylor, moored at Torness Power Station, and the D-class inshore lifeboat (ILB) David Lauder, which launches from Dunbar Harbour.
