Ellie Guy has recently completed her shore crew pass out for the charity following in the footsteps of three generations of her family.

Volunteer shore crew are essential to the launching and recovery of inshore lifeboats both on exercise and service calls. They also contribute to the general upkeep of the lifeboat station, lifeboat and check vital equipment such as lifejackets.

Ellie’s dad, Dan Guy, who is a Coxswain at Eastbourne RNLI said of his daughter’s Tier 1 pass out: 'I’m extremely proud of Ellie after passing out as shore crew since she joined Eastbourne RNLI. She is following in the footsteps of her great grandfather, grandfather, father and uncle, making her the fourth generation of the Guy family to serve as crew on the lifeboats at Eastbourne, spanning a little over 110 years.

'I’m looking forward to watching Ellie progress on her journey and the day when we both go on our first exercise or service call together as Coxswain and crew.'

Ellie added: 'I’m glad to have passed out as inshore lifeboat shore crew at Eastbourne and I’m really looking forward to progressing onto boat crew.'
