Unexpected visitor greets RNLI volunteers during routine lifeboat servicing
Volunteer crew from Sheerness RNLI enjoyed an unusual encounter while their all-weather lifeboat was undergoing routine servicing at Gillingham Marina on February 11.
During the visit, crew members met Goldie, a well-known pet duck belonging to Mark Colyer, who has gained attention for accompanying his owner on outings and around local venues.
The chance meeting provided a light-hearted moment for volunteers alongside the day’s maintenance activities.
Also present were RNLI Area 1 technician Steph and Area 3 technician Will, who is also volunteer crew at Newhaven RNLI.
The encounter served as a reminder that, alongside the operational demands of maintaining a search and rescue service, volunteering can also bring unexpected and memorable moments within the wider maritime community.
