Lytham St Annes Lifeboat Station prepares for the 2026 Open Day on 5 September

The Lytham St Annes RNLI volunteers are preparing for the annual Station Open Day this Saturday at the All-weather Lifeboat House on South Promenade (FY8 1SJ) next to the swimming baths. Come along and find out about the work of the sea charity.

There is something for everyone to enjoy. Meet the volunteers. View the station’s two lifeboats, the all-weather Shannon class Lifeboat (ALB) Barbara Anne and the inshore lifeboat (ILB) MOAM . Their operation and that of the launch and recovery vehicles and equipment will be explained by the crew.

Live music will be performed throughout the day featuring The Travelling Strings, the Lytham St Annes Shanty Crew, Roy Turner, Clive Marquis Carr and Matt Chadwick. By popular demand, Zumba Suzy’s zumba display team will be performing their routines and inviting all to join in.

Tombolas, games and entertainment for all ages is planned, all to a backdrop of the Kite Festival on the beach. For those feeling hungry there will be a BBQ, a bar and cafe with tea and coffee and cakes to satisfy their needs.

This year marks the 175^th anniversary of the founding of the Lytham Lifeboat Station and the 140^th since the worst disaster to befall the RNLI when 27 lifeboatmen lost their lives in the Ribble Estuary in 1886. In 2024 to celebrate the 200^th anniversary of the RNLI, a row of pavers inscribed with the names of donors or their loved ones was installed outside the ALB House on South Promenade, viewable at any time. Due to many requests a second row of inscribed pavers is being installed to commemorate the Station’s 175^th anniversary and these will be available to order on the Open Day shortly before the project closes later in the month. Please don’t miss out this time.
