Largs volunteer lifeboat crew were paged at approximately 5:10am today (Sunday 30th August), to assist a 24ft yacht with 2 people on board aground on a local area of shoreline known as Brigurd Spit.
Within minutes the volunteer crew had launched the stations Atlantic 85 Lifeboat ‘R A Wilson’ and were making best speed to the location provided.
On arrival at the yacht, it was found to be fully aground and as the tide was still falling there would be no way of taking the yacht into deeper water.
After discussions between volunteer helm Angus and the yachts skipper it was agreed the best action would be to take the 2 occupants onto the lifeboat, get a crew member to deploy the yachts anchor to ensure when the tide did return the yacht would not float further to shore or out into the shipping channel and become a hazard and then return to Largs Yacht Haven.
On arrival back at the Yacht Haven and the 2 occupants were safely ashore, Largs Lifeboat was released from service and returned to station where the Lifeboat was refuelled, washed down, and made ready for the next service call.
