Ramsgate RNLI Junior Fishing organisers honoured by High Sheriff of Kent.
For the past nine years, volunteer lifeboat crew and fishing boat owner Jason Parrott and his wife Dawn have organised the junior fishing competition to raise money for Ramsgate RNLI.
So on Friday 28 August local fishing boats set out from Ramsgate with 79 excited children onboard, a record number. Seventeen local fishing boats, all of who had given up a days charter as well as providing bait and equipment. We would like to express our thanks to Taxi Boat, Skerry Bell, Silver Lining, Renegade, Ranger, Norse, Lady Ann, Guess Again, Dominator, Cassie Rose, Christabel, Bonwey, Bon Adventure, 7 Meter Cat, Marisella, River Runner 5 and a new boat for this year Atlantic Seal.
We were also honoured to have the Mayor of Ramsgate Cllr. Raushan Ara and her deputy Mayor Cllr. Jane Hetherington with us for prize giving.
This event wouldn’t take place without the support of local businesses like main sponsor Vattenfall who provided so many prizes as well as tee shirts and medals for each child, as well as gazebos in case the weather turned inclement. There was also a small army of volunteers who helped throughout the day including members of the crew.

Coxswain Ian Cannon, himself a keen fisherman said, “We should encourage children to play outside and teach them how to act safely around open water, and what they should do if they were to fall in. Due to Jason and Dawn’s efforts each child was able to take home a rod, reel and bait box so they carry on fishing encouraging them to enjoy the outdoors. Remember always teach your child how to float to live details of which can be found on the RNLI website.”
We are still counting the donations from today but we know we are already over £6,500, thank you to everyone for their generosity.
