Abersoch RNLI tasked to two missing teenagers on a paddleboard.
The volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard at 5.21pm on Monday evening, 24th August, following a report of two missing teenagers who were 90 minutes overdue.
The lifeboat was launched at 5.33pm in a northerly wind direction and a slight sea state and headed towards Ynys Gwlan (Gull Island) off Aberdaron. The two casualties, who were on one paddleboard, were last seen heading towards the island.
The crew were stood down by the Coastguard while en route, after Aberdaron Coastguard Rescue Team located the two teenagers safe and well on the beach.
The lifeboat returned to the station at 6.05pm where it was washed down, refuelled and left ready for service by the volunteer shore crew.
Abersoch Lifeboat Operations Manager, Martin Turtle, said ‘It was the right thing to do in raising the alarm with the Coastguard. You should always tell someone where you are going and when you expect to back and ensure that you have a means of calling for help with you that can easily be reached should you get into difficulty.’ He added, ‘Thankfully the two teenagers were quickly located on the beach.’
