Ramsgate Lifeboats launches to report of upturned dinghy.
Ramsgate’s all weather lifeboat Diamond Jubilee, launched at the request of HM Coastguard to reports of a small dinghy adrift in the shipping lanes,
The Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter Rescue 263 was also despatched to investigate as the boat was upturned and it was unsure if there was any casualties with the boat. A thorough search was carried out of the surrounding area to a distance of one mile made easier as there was good visibility and a slight sea state with swells of just half a metre. There was no debris which would indicate that the boat had been manned. Subsequently it turned out that it was a three metre boat tender which had slipped its moorings.
To avoid any danger to shipping the volunteer crew lifted the boat onto the aft deck of the lifeboat and brought it back into Ramsgate Harbour arriving at 1745. The Helicopter was dismissed and returned to its base in Lydd.
Later investigation found that the tender had the name of a boat in Faversham Creek so had travelled a fair distance out to sea.
