Dart RNLI volunteers in double rescue

Lifeboats News Release

Dart RNLI volunteers were alerted at 2.21pm on August 9 after reports of a boat in difficulty at Newfoundland Cove, just outside Dartmouth.

The D-Class, helmed by Lee Darch and crewed by Robin Johnston and Callum Hobson, discovered a 28-foot wooden boat with around 15 people on board.
The vessel had been at anchor but dragging, and going towards rocks. The Dart Harbour Authority had managed to tow the boat out of the cove, and the D-Class put paramedic Callum from the crew on board to help with sickness and some injuries caused by the anchor.
The D-Class then went back to Newfoundland Cove after reports of another vessel in difficulty. Another boat was anchored near the rocks, with a rope snagged around her propeller. The D-Class managed to set up a stern tow, and then moved alongside and brought the boat back to Dartmouth Pontoon.
Helm Lee said: 'It is always best to check on the weather. It was very calm in the morning, but the wind turned and it very quickly created a swell and very different conditions.'
