Llandudno RNLI rescues casualty from cliff face

Llandudno RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was launched at 4:13pm on Friday 7 August following a report of a casualty who had become cut off by the incoming tide to the east of the Little Orme.

As the tide continued to rise, the casualty attempted to climb the cliff face of the Little Orme to reach safety. After climbing approximately 10 metres, it became apparent that the route was too difficult to continue.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, North Wales Police and Llandudno Coastguard were tasked to assist with the rescue. However, once Llandudno RNLI’s inshore lifeboat arrived on scene, the crew quickly assessed that the safest option would be for the casualty to descend onto the lifeboat.

One of the lifeboat crew was landed at the base of the cliff and scrambled up to meet the casualty. The crew member fitted the casualty with a lifejacket before securing them to a rope provided from above, which was used to assist them safely down the cliff face and onto the lifeboat.

Once aboard, the casualty was assessed by the crew and found to have sustained only minor cuts and scrapes. They were then transported by lifeboat back to Llandudno Lifeboat Station, where they were safely landed.

The incident highlights the dangers of becoming cut off by the tide and the importance of checking tide times and planning ahead before heading onto the coast.
