Llandudno RNLI crew complete Lifeboat Trainer Assessor course

Two crew members from Llandudno RNLI Lifeboat Station have successfully completed the RNLI's Lifeboat Trainer Assessor Course that was held in Fleetwood, strengthening the station's ability to train and assess its operational crew.

Luke Heritage and Mike Jones spent the week undertaking the intensive course, which equips experienced crew members with the knowledge and practical skills required to plan, deliver and assess lifeboat training in line with RNLI standards. The programme covered effective training techniques, identifying learning needs, risk assessment, scenario-based exercises, assessment methods and maintaining training records.

Following the course, Luke Heritage has qualified as a Lifeboat Trainer Assessor, while Mike Jones, who has held the role for a number of years, has successfully revalidated his qualification.

Lifeboat Trainer Assessors play a vital role in maintaining the operational readiness of RNLI crews. They are responsible for delivering structured training and carrying out formal assessments, both ashore and at sea, ensuring crew members meet the standards required for operational competency. This includes conducting Tier 1 assessments for seagoing crew as they progress through their training.

The qualification helps ensure that Llandudno's volunteer crews continue to receive high quality training, enabling them to respond safely and effectively.
