Denbighshire lifeguards mark 25th anniversary with RNLI BeachROX fitness event
Rhyl beach lifeguards are taking on their first ever BeachROX challenge to celebrate 25 years of RNLI lifeguards in the UK.
On Saturday 15 August, Rhyl Lifeboat Station and RNLI lifeguards are holding their first ever HYROX-style beach challenge to mark 25 years of RNLI lifeguards keeping beaches safe. The HYROX-inspired beach challenge will take place at Rhyl Lifeboat Station, combining endurance, functional fitness, and RNLI lifeboat and lifeguard elements.
During the BeachROX challenge, participants will take on 8 x 1km runs, each followed by a functional exercise station, testing strength, stamina and determination in a unique coastal setting. Some of the stations vary slightly from your typical HYROX event, using some lifeboat specific equipment. The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to get involved with a base level of fitness.
RNLI Lead Lifeguard Supervisor, Lucy Tilson said:
‘The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to get involved. It’s recommended you have at least a base level of fitness, due to the nature of the event. Whether you’re a seasoned HYROX athlete or just looking for a fun challenge, our BeachROX event will push your limits and get your heart pumping.
‘Participants can sign up individually, as a pair or as a team. Bring your energy, bring your friends, and enjoy an evening on Rhyl Beach, full of action, sweat, and good vibes!

- Individual - £20.00
- Pairs - £20.00
- Teams of 4 - £10.00
For the last 25 years, RNLI lifeguards have been making beaches safer across the UK. They share safety advice, provide first aid to those who need it and save the lives of those who get in trouble in the water.
During that time, they have made more than 48M preventative actions, attended more than 330,000 incidents and aided more than 440,000 people on beaches around the UK and the Channel Islands.
In Denbighshire, RNLI beach lifeguards have rescued 160 people and aided a further 13,431 since the service began in 2012.
