RNLI lifeguards in fundraising overnight 25km swim
Six RNLI lifeguards aged from 18 to 65 are planning an exhausting overnight swim from Chesil Beach to Lyme Regis this weekend to mark the 25th anniversary of the charity’s lifesaving service.
The swim, involving lifeguards who patrol the beaches throughout West Dorset, starts at 3am on Saturday 8 August and it’s planned to cover the 25km distance in time for the Lyme Regis lifeguards to start their shift on the beach at 10am.
One of the Lyme Regis lifeguards, Ben Greenslade , 25, said: “We will be swimming all night and our main concern is that this lovely calm weather continues.
“We are all experienced open water swimmers and we thought this would be a good way to help celebrate the lifeguards’ anniversary.”
Ben will have good company on the swim. His father, Malcolm,65, is also a Lyme Regis lifeguard and is also taking part.
An RNLI spokesman said: “This challenge is designed to highlight the dedication and resilience of RNLI lifeguards while raising vital funds to help the charity continue protecting those who enjoy our beaches.”
