Newbiggin RNLI Lifeboat Day success
Newbiggin lifeboat station volunteer fundraising event has realised over £7,100 today.
In this our 175th year of lifesaving at Newbiggin the outdoor event had excellent weather which brought out hundreds of supporters make this event so successful. There were a variety of stalls and displays in and around the boathouse giving brisk trade including souvenirs, tombola, homemade cards, artwork, nearly new, Bric a Brac, and raffle.
On the slipway we had the British East India Company who 'prowled' the promenade and had the stocks for a watery punishment, to secure donations.
The Newbiggin Fundraising Team also kept the visitor's appetite for homemade cakes and refreshments going throughout the afternoon within the boathouse as well as those wanting to escape the sun.
Newbiggin and Blyth Coastguard Rescue Teams along with lifeboats from Blyth lifeboat Station provided other displays around the boathouse area.
At sea in the bay, Newbiggin, Blyth and Amble lifeboats kept the visitors entertained with training exercises.
Outside the boathouse the Newbiggin by the Sea Choir, the Aukland Sea Shanty Group and Blyth Samba Group kept us all entertained throughout the day with a lively rendition of songs.
With the afternoon concluding the various raffles and competition results were announced with all prizes claimed on the day. A full list of winning tickets and prizes is on display outside the lifeboat station.
John Bryan Chair of the Newbiggin Lifeboat Management Group commented ' thank you everybody on behalf of the volunteers at Newbiggin lifeboat station in this 175th anniversary for the lifeboat here. We are grateful for all the support including a generous donation of £300 from Newbiggin Town Council and with other support from Northumberland County Council and access to the adjacent boat areas. It is greatly appreciated by us all.'
Newbiggin RNLI is based at Sandridge, Newbiggin by the Sea, Northumberland. The station was established in 1851 and currently operates an Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Richard Wake Burdon. This year, 2026, is our 175th year of saving lives at sea, an anniversary where we reflect on the incredible dedication of our volunteers, past and present and the incredible support we receive from our community and beyond - all of this has made our 175 year journey possible.
